Squid spill covers Rhode Island roadway
A Rhode Island beach town was still stinky after some cephalopod chaos happened over the weekend.
Forty thousand pounds of squid spilled all over a busy intersection in Narragansett on Sunday.
The squid was in a tractor-trailor that tipped over. Crews worked for several hours to clean up the mess, using heavy equipment that included an excavator.
“I didn’t believe it was real when my friend posted about it and I was on the island reading,” Emma Andy, who was visiting Narragansett, said. “‘You might have to climb over … a mountain of squid to get to Block Island today.’ And then her next story was a photo of it and was like ‘Oh my God, it is indeed real.’ It felt like something out of SpongeBob or something.”
The road is open again, and no one was hurt. But the smell might take a little longer to dissipate.
