South Fork Fire prompts evacuations in Ruidoso


RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – Evacuations are happening in a part of Ruidoso on Monday, June 17, 2024, due to the South Fork Fire.

The Village of Ruidoso issued a “Go” status for the Upper Canyon and Brandy Canyon. Anyone in that area needs to evacuate immediately.

The back end of Cedar Creek is being put on “Set” status. Anyone in that area needs to be prepared to evacuate if notified.

The Ruidoso Convention Center is the emergency shelter.

  • Location: Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation, approximately 2-3 miles from the Village of Ruidoso limits
  • Fire Size: 15 acres
