MARINA, Calif. —
A shark was seen breaching off Marina State Beach around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in a video captured by a beachgoer.
California State Parks confirmed shark activity in the area through its cameras, which recorded a breach around 12:26 p.m. Officials said they could not confirm whether the shark in the video was the same one seen on camera.
Erin King, who was born and raised in the Salinas Valley, captured the video on her phone.
King said she met a group of sisters on the beach and took photos for them. They insisted on taking photos of her, she said, and captured the shark while filming. King described the encounter as a special experience that bonded the group.
State Parks issued a shark advisory for Marina State Beach because of recent activity. Officials said sharks commonly migrate to the Central Coast during the fall and winter.
Beachgoers are urged to use caution in or near the water, stay alert, and leave the water immediately if they see a shark. They should also notify park personnel.
