The title track of Shania Twain‘s new album is here and it features a very special guest — Tanya Tucker! She even references her by name in the chorus.
What Is Shania Twain’s Song “Little Miss Twain” About?
Title tracks are something special on any collection of songs, and this one is no different. If the album’s title is the outline of Twain’s life, then “Little Miss Twain,” the song, provides the color, shading and texture that bring the picture to life.
Twain sings about growing up and eventually becoming one of the biggest names in country music. As a child, her dream was to ride horses, but with little money, that dream had to take a back seat. In high school, all she wanted was to stop feeling invisible.
The chorus tells the story of her mother Sharon’s unwavering belief in her daughter. While young Shania was still finding her way, it was Sharon who dreamed big, calling her “the next Tanya Tucker.”
For Mom: Shania Twain Honors Her Late Mother with Her New Album
It’s poetic that Tucker is the one who joins Twain on the song. If only Twain’s mother had lived to see the moment. Sadly, she died in 1987, years before witnessing any of her daughter’s success.
Here are the Lyrics to Shania Twain’s “Little Miss Twain”
Verse
I dreamt of riding horses / That would’ve been my choice if I could have afforded them back then / Black ones, shiny as glass / With thick, long manes flowing in slow motion, racing on the sand
Pre-Chorus
At 10 / That was just my wild imagination running away with me
Chorus
According to my mother, I’m the next Tanya Tucker / She drives me to sing in the bar / Push start the Chevy, it’s old and it’s heavy / And I’m still smaller than my guitar / Smoking like a chimney, coaching it in me / “Honey, you’re gonna go far” / According to my mother, I’m the next Tanya Tucker / I’m gonna be a star / Yeah, I’m gonna be a star
Verse 2
I heard a song called “At Seventeen” ’bout the ugly truth of youth and vanity / I wondered if I’d be invisible for life / Under the snow in my little town / Where cold winds blow and, every year, someone disappears
Pre-Chorus
Somewhere frozen in time / But five days drive south was Nashville, Tennessee / Waiting for me
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
Gonna make it to that big, round conference table / At a major record label / Little Miss Twain / Please sign your name
Repeat Chorus
