A man and woman from Hobbs were arrested after their six-week-old baby girl was hospitalized with severe injuries, a Lea County Sheriff’s Office social media news release said.Tyler Rey Janousek, 25, was charged with three counts of abandonment or abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. Trenaty Kaylyn Lewis, 25, was charged with three counts of accessory to wit, abandonment or abuse of a child, also a first-degree felony.The child had multiple broken ribs when she was left at Covenant Hospital in Hobbs, and was transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas for advanced medical care. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division then began an investigation of how the child may have been injured, the release said.Doctors said that the child had sustained at least 29 old and new fractures, which they said were evidence of violent and recurrent abusive trauma. She was placed in protective custody and released to the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department while still receiving medical treatment, the release said.A warrant was issued for her parents, who were taken into custody and booked into the Lea County Detention Center.This is an ongoing investigation that could result in additional charges being brought.
