Crews with the Lincoln National Forest are actively combating the flames.Below are details on the Seven Cabins Fire, which has burned an estimated 889 acres. Start Date/ Time: 4:12 a.m. on Thursday, May 14 Location: North of Capitan, Capitan Mountain Wilderness. Acres: 889 acres. Containment: 0% contained. Fuels: Dead and down within the Peppin Fire scar from 2004. Mostly large down dead logs. Cause: Under investigation. Ownership: Federal Lincoln National Forest Structure Threat: Communication site. Resources: 4 Single Engine Air Tankers, 5 Engines, 2 Helicopters, 1 Water Tender. Evacuations / Closures: Residents north of the Capitan mountains are placed on GO status at this time. Areas off state highway 246 from Gap Road to Boy Scout Mountain need to evacuate. Temporary shelters will be announced as soon as they are in place. Public Safety: The public should take caution and avoid the area so that first responders may work unimpeded. Small livestock such as horses, goats, pigs, and chickens can be taken to the fairgrounds in Capitan.
