Santa Fe police chase, arrest pair for adult store theft

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday, Jan. 28, after stealing sexually oriented merchandise from a store, threatening employees, injuring a man, and then fleeing in a vehicle, a Santa Fe Police Department news release said.SFPD officers went to the Love ETC store at 3258 Cerrillos Rd., where they were told that Du Huyah, 49, of Albuquerque and Heather Martinez, 45, of Taos, stole merchandise. and a store employee had tried to recover the items. They were told that Huyah hit the employee in the back several times with his fists, then pointed a gun at him. Another person tried to intervene and fought with Huyan, the release said.Huyan then got into a car that Martinez was driving. The car went in reverse, knocked the intervening person to the ground, then drove away.SFPD officers elsewhere were able to locate the vehicle, and a traffic stop was attempted, but Huyan, who was driving the car, drove away fast. The car was finally stopped by an officer executing a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, the release said.Huyan and Martinez were arrested and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center. Huyan is charged with battery, aggravated assault, fleeing a police officer, larceny, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (two counts). Martinez is charged with aggravated battery (deadly weapon) and larceny.
