Sacaton Fire in Gila National Forest prompts mandatory evacuations
The Sacaton Fire in the Gila National Forest has prompted the Catron County Sheriff’s Office to place the Willow Creek area on “GO” evacuation status. The Sacaton Fire has burned more than 6,400 acres as of Friday afternoon with no containment. Officials say lightning started the fire on Sunday, June 21. It is approximately 12.5 miles southeast of Glenwood and 21 miles northwest of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team will assumed command of the Sacaton Fire on Friday, July 3.
