RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Village of Ruidoso has battled a lot of adversity over the past couple of years, with fires and deadly flooding shaking this community to its core. The Ruidoso High School football team has felt the effects of these tragedies and hopes to supply the community with some positivity with wins on the gridiron.
“Very challenging, very challenging, we have had several students lose their homes, and one of them was a football kid. You know, we have had several teachers as well. With the floods comes weather protocols, so we have to sometimes not practice for three or three days in a row, you know, and it hurts, it hurts everybody,” said Ruidoso Football Coach / Athletic Director Shane Eidson.
“Our kids are resilient and that is what I love about this place is that the expectation now is we have to deal with the flood, we are going to deal with it, and we are going to go on and work hard, and we are going to get over this and we are going to do what we need to do to win some games,” said Eidson.
Ruidoso returns 30 players from last year’s team and seven seniors who will provide a solid core of skill players that highlight this roster. The Warriors also come into the 2025 season with a new head coach, as current athletic director Shane Eidson takes over a program that finished with a 2-9 record in 2024. “What I brought to the team, I think, is a little more intensity. When we get on the field, we are going to flip a gear, and it’s going to be a completely different situation. We are going to attack, and attack, and attack, and we are going to come out and surprise some people,” said Coach Eidson.
The Ruidoso Warriors kick off the 2025 high school football season on Aug. 22nd, hosting the Eunice Cardinals at 7 p.m.
