Roswell man accused of killing another man during an argument

Date:

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Roswell man has been arrested after being accused of shooting and killing another man during a confrontation on August 31. Willie Fuentes, 62, was booked into the Chaves County Detention Center and charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Fuentes is accused of shooting and killing Roman Chavez, 49, after an argument between the two men broke out in the 400 block of West 16th St. Roswell police officers were called to the scene around 7 p.m. and found Chavez with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say the two men had an ongoing conflict with each other.

Investigators believe Fuentes rode his bike to a relatives residence in the area, on the same block where Chavez lives. They believe Chavez kicked over Fuentes’ bike that was outside the residence. Investigators say Fuentes came out with a gun and shot at Chavez, but missed. Chavez then pulled out a gun and both men fired a shot at each other. Chavez was struck and Fuentes was not struck. Fuentes was arrested and booked after an arrest warrant was issued.
