Reba McEntire Reveals the Biggest Lesson She’s Learned at 70

Date:

Reba McEntire has done a lot of living — and just as much learning.

Despite countless awards and life-changing milestones, turning 70 gave the country legend a new kind of clarity.

McEntire recently opened up about the hardest lesson she’s ever had to learn — and it wasn’t about music, money, or fame. It was about being present.

‘Quit Living for Tomorrow and Yesterday’

“The hardest lesson was to quit living for tomorrow and for yesterday,” The Voice coach told People. “That’s really hard to do, but it’s so rewarding when it clicks.”

She noted that she’s still working on it — but the shift has changed her perspective.

“I used to think being content was a no-no, because if you’re content, you’re not going to strive to continue to do better,” she explained. “That’s not true.”

Enjoy every minute,” McEntire added — advice she says she shares often with young artists on The Voice and anyone else who asks.

It’s a mindset that’s helped her let go of stress — whether it’s “the little stuff or the big stuff” — and focus on what really matters.

No Deadline on the Dream

After more than 50 years in country music, McEntire has no plans to slow down — at least not completely.

“I don’t know when [I’ll retire]. It could be in 20 years,” she told the outlet. “I think I’ll know when it’s the time.”

She recalled asking Dolly Parton how she knew when to stop, and the response stuck with her: “Why would I? What in the world could I do and have as much fun as what I’m doing in this job right now?”

“I agree with her a hundred percent,” McEntire said. “Slow down, maybe, but no plans of retiring.”

A New Chapter, Full of Gratitude

That mindset seems to be working. “I love this chapter in my life,” she shared. “I’m very grateful.”

And it’s a full one: McEntire recently got engaged to actor Rex Linn, announcing the news at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

The couple star together in the NBC sitcom Happy Place, alongside Melissa Peterman and Belissa Escobedo.

Fifty years into a legendary career, Reba McEntire isn’t chasing what’s next — she’s choosing to enjoy what’s now.
