Rape suspect son of man convicted in 2022 Muslim murders

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police say the son of a man serving time for killing a Muslim man back in 2022 has been arrested on rape charges. Albuquerque police say Adil Syed is suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl at a West Side park in May.

An investigation into Adil Syed began in May after a girl reported to APD she had been sexually assaulted by a man she met online. The girl told police that the man, later identified as Adil Syed, drove to pick her up at her aunt’s home. The girl and her female cousin left with Syed and picked up the girl’s male cousin.

Police say Syed drove the group to a park, and the two cousins exited the car. The girl and Syed stayed in the car, and that’s when the girl said the rape happened. When the cousins returned, Syed drove everyone to a location near the girl’s grandmother’s house.

The girl said that when they got there, the male cousin got in a fight with Syed. The cousin was injured and taken to a hospital.

Syed was arrested on Friday by APD Detectives in Southwest Albuquerque. He’s booked into the MDC and charged with second-degree criminal sexual penetration.

Adil’s father, Muhammad Syed, was accused of killing three Muslim men in Albuquerque in 2022. Muhammad was found guilty in 2024 for one of the murders and pleaded “no contest” to second-degree murder for the two other shootings.
