Rain and storms expected Sunday afternoon and evening

Eastern New Mexico may see strong to severe storms and burn scar flooding

We are ending the weekend with a lot of heat. Temperatures continue to trend above average into the new week. Sunday starts sunny and mild with increasing afternoon clouds.

Go ahead with your outdoor plans through lunchtime. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms should develop around 3 p.m. and continue into the evening hours.

Highs around the Albuquerque metro push into the lower 90s before the rain arrives. It will be mostly cloudy and windy Sunday night. Rain lingers into early Monday morning.

Rain chances stay in the forecast on Monday mainly across the southwestern mountains. We will begin to dry out Tuesday and Wednesday with high pressure close by.

Temperatures begin to climb toward record-challenging highs through the second half of the week.
