Principal shot while subduing gunman at Oklahoma high school, officials confirm
Authorities confirmed that law enforcement officials were responding to a situation at Pauls Valley Public Schools.
Multiple agencies who are all *** part of this investigation and who responded to this shooting incident this afternoon. So here’s here’s what we have so far. At approximately about 2:21 this afternoon, the Pauls Valley Police Department received *** call of *** shooting inside of the school. What they had learned when they responded to the scene is that the principal of the school had noticed that an adult male subject, uh, 20 years old, had stepped foot into the school with *** gun. Um, when the principal noticed this, he quickly stepped in, as well as other school staff. The subject was able to fire multiple rounds um where the principal was hurt. Um, but no one else was, and, uh, the principal as well as school staff was able to subdue the subject before obviously other people were hurt, including students. Um, within minutes, the sheriff’s office of Garvin County got to the scene. The Pauls Valley Police Department got here as well, and they were able to place the subject into, uh, uh, custody very quickly. The principal who sustained injuries during the shooting was transported to *** local hospital where he’s in stable condition at this time. Um, but again, I just want to be very clear, the actions of the staff and the principal stepping in as soon as they saw *** subject with *** firearm saved lives today. There were obviously, this was during school, there were multiple people here, obviously multiple students, and by them stepping in, giving law enforcement *** chance to, to get, to get here, obviously saved multiple people’s lives. And so, um, the school did *** tremendous job of obviously placing the school on lockdown when this happened, placing students into close, uh, proximity classrooms until the scene was deemed safe. And then they were able to um go through the process of getting students to their their parents and so that that’s what they’re still doing at this time. Um, it’s still an active scene inside. We’re still uh looking over uh the crime scene. OSBI was requested by the Pauls Valley Police Department, so the OSBI is the lead investigator on this case now, and we’re still looking into this right now. Um, again, the subject, what we know right now is that he is 20. Um, in terms of access into the school, how all that went down, we’re still looking into that at this time. Was the shooter *** former student? Yes, fair to say the identity on this, this person, not at this time, but we will soon. Fair to say he targeted the. principal. We’re not sure yet. Obviously the way that this occurred was that the way that this occurred was that once the principal saw that the subject had *** firearm, he stepped in to do what he could. So why he was inside the school, why this subject decided to bring in *** weapon and shoot, we’re not sure yet.

The principal was listed in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the shooting occurred in the lobby area of the high school. Moore was the only person injured in the shooting, according to law enforcement.
