Pregnant woman in South Carolina dies after her hair gets caught in go-kart sprocket, coroner says
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. —
A pregnant woman in South Carolina has died after her hair got caught in the sprocket of a go-kart, according to the Sumter County coroner.
Baylee Johnson, 24, was injured in the accident on Aug. 23 off Skinner Road in the eastern part of the county.
She was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center, where she died on Aug. 31.
Johnson’s family told WIS-TV in Columbia that Johnson was 15 weeks pregnant and had just learned she was having a baby boy. She and her boyfriend were planning to name him Johnny.
“Baylee loved Johnny deeply,” according to her obituary. “She dreamed about him, talked about him, prayed for him and was already planning the life she wanted to give him. From the moment she learned he was there, Baylee was his mama, and Johnny was completely and unconditionally loved.”
Her loved ones described her as a caring person with a sense of humor.
“Caring for others came naturally to Baylee—but so did making them laugh. And if there is one thing everyone who knew Baylee could agree on, it is that she was funny. So funny,” her obituary said. “Baylee was silly, spontaneous and completely carefree.”
A funeral was held for her on Saturday. Johnson’s obituary said she worked at Prisma Health OB/GYN–Sumter. Read more about her life here.
