PHOTOS: Moon appears orange due to partial lunar eclipse

The moon appeared reddish-orange late Thursday night and into Friday morning during a partial lunar eclipse.

About 96% of the moon passed through Earth’s umbra, falling just short of a total lunar eclipse, according to NASA.

The reddish-orange appearance is commonly referred to as a “blood moon.”
