Pat McAfee is celebrating the arrival of his baby boy — but the road to getting there was far more emotional and frightening than many fans realized.
On Monday morning (May 25), the sports personality shared that his wife Samantha gave birth to their son, Midas Robert McAfee, after what he described as a “high risk pregnancy” that led to an emergency C-section and a scary NICU stay shortly after birth.
Thankfully, McAfee says both mom and baby are now doing well.
Pat McAfee Reveals Scary Birth Complications
In a lengthy post on X, McAfee explained that doctors made the decision to perform an emergency C-section Friday night after Samantha developed severe preeclampsia during her pregnancy.

Baby Midas was born on May 22 at 10:42 p.m., weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces.
McAfee described his son as a “screaming young legend” with “10 toes, 10 fingers” and “a full head of hair,” but admitted things quickly became emotional behind the scenes.
Because Midas was born at 36 weeks — slightly premature — doctors determined he needed additional help developing his lungs and adjusting to life outside the womb.
Baby Midas Was Taken to the NICU
Shortly after birth, Midas was transferred to the NICU, where he was placed on a CPAP machine, given a feeding tube and monitored inside a heated pod.
“It is a bit scary to see your baby hooked up to so many very serious things,” McAfee admitted.

Meanwhile, Samantha was recovering from major surgery while McAfee bounced back and forth between the NICU and her hospital room trying to stay positive through the frightening experience.
Despite the emotional few days, McAfee said his son quickly proved to be “a dawg and a fighter.”
A Happy Ending for the McAfee Family
After roughly 36 hours in the NICU, Midas was finally released back into the room with his parents.
McAfee shared that the family is now preparing to bring their son home, where he’ll meet big sister Mackenzie.
And after several stressful days filled with uncertainty, the update ultimately turned into a very emotional celebration for the growing McAfee family.
