Oscar-nominated actress Barbara Barrie has died at the age of 95, her representatives confirmed to multiple media outlets.
Representatives on behalf of the Harnick family confirmed that Barrie’s “passing was medically assisted in accordance with the New York State Medical Aid in Dying law, of which she was a proponent and advocate.”
The New York Times said the “Suddenly Susan” actress had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and died at her New York City home on Oct. 28.
She had also previously disclosed a diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic, incurable lung disease, Playbill reported in September 2014.
During her career, Barrie made appearances across countless series, such as “Nurse Jackie” and “Law & Order: SVU.”
Almost a decade before she was in contention for an Academy Award for her performance in 1979’s “Breaking Away,” the thespian earned a Tony nomination for her work in the original run of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Company.”
E! News said Barrie worked for over 55 years in the industry after being introduced to acting at a community theater when she was around 11 years old.
