A 13-year-old riding an electric scooter died Wednesday night after a crash with a pickup truck in Orlando on Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.The teen has been identified by troopers as Colton Remsburg. Remsburg was heading to a store to buy flowers for his mom to celebrate Mother’s Day when he was hit. According to FHP, the boy was crossing the street on his scooter when he was hit by the truck. “It’s very tragic,” Tyler Embry told sister station WESH while standing on the road Tuesday afternoon before his friend died.His family is close to Remsburg’s family.”The worst thing was that he didn’t wear a helmet, and he didn’t have any broken bones on him. It’s just that he hit his head so hard on the ground,” Embry said.Another friend of the teen’s family provided WESH with a photograph of the crash scene, showing that the impact had split the scooter into two pieces. “It’s just really sad that it had to happen to him,” Embry said.FHP said the driver of the pickup truck is a 35-year-old who was not injured and remained at the scene after the crash. Troopers said the pickup driver will likely not be charged or ticketed. According to FHP, the case has been assigned to traffic homicide investigations as a delayed fatality.
