The defending national champions avoided an upset loss.

One year after finishing 16-0, the Indiana Hoosiers improved to 8-1 in 2026.

Minnesota traveled to Bloomington and had the Hoosiers on the ropes, but the home team prevailed, 23-16.

A 60-yard field goal by Luke Drzewiecki with 19 seconds looked like it would be the end of the game. However, Indiana kicked a 60-yard field goal of its own as time expired off the foot of Paddy McAteer.

In overtime, Minnesota elected to play defense first and Charlie Becker, who set up the game-tying score, hauled in a touchdown pass on the first play of the extra period.

Indiana stopped Minnesota on its overtime possession.

The Golden Gophers fell to 5-3, while Indiana improved to 8-1.

The Hoosiers previously lost a heartbreaker to No. 2-ranked Ohio State.

Indiana managed to avoid the first back-to-back losses of head coach Curt Cignetti’s three-year tenure by winning at Michigan last week for the first time since 1967. The Hoosiers extended their winning streak to 29 games over unranked opponents.

Minnesota had won four of its last five games and had already beaten three ranked foes this season, coming into this week.
