Nicole Kidman attended the 2026 Met Gala on Monday night (May 4) with a very special guest: Her 17-year-old daughter Sunday Rose. It was the first time Sunday has ever attended the event.
It also placed the teen in very rare company, as one of very few people who get to go to the Met Gala before reaching adulthood.
Since 2018, the Met Gala has held a policy against attendees under 18 years old.

But Sunday Rose wasn’t the only minor guest at the 2026 ceremony: Beyoncé brought her 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy with her to the gala.

The age limit was instated in 2018 per The Hollywood Reporter, and came to light after then-15-year-old Dance Moms alum Maddie Ziegler said she “can’t go because I’m not old enough.”
Organizers for the Met Gala told THR that they changed their policy because “it’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”

But they also added that exceptions could be made for children accompanied by their parents, and both Blue Ivy and Sunday Rose were there with their superstar moms. (Blue Ivy’s famous dad, Jay-Z, also attended.)
Why Did Nicole Kidman Bring Her Daughter As Her Date to the Met Gala?
Over the past couple of years, Sunday Rose has stepped into the spotlight more and more: She launched a modeling career and even appeared alongside Kidman in a beauty campaign.
In conversation with Vogue at the gala, Sunday said that her floral gown was a representation of her debut outing at the event.
“I wanted to symbolize something blooming. It’s my first Met,” she said.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was “Costume Art,” with the dress code prompt, “Fashion is Art.” Kidman told Vogue that she chose a red gown in order to symbolize the important meaning the color has held in works of art throughout history.
“I wanted something red because I wanted to embrace the way in which red has been used in art through the years,” Kidman reflected. “I feel that it’s strong symbol for love, for passionate love, for vitality, for power and motherhood.”
