NFL players and members of the Cincinnati Bengals teamed up with Operation Ramp It Up volunteers to help give one Cincinnati man a better quality of life.
Fresh off the Oct. 25 road win over the Baltimore Ravens, several players, including Bengals offensive lineman Dalton Risner, staff members and cheerleaders, joined efforts to build a mobility ramp for an 81-year-old Navy veteran and his wife.
The NFL says it honors and helps veterans across the country live better lives through its Salute to Service program.
“We’re building a ramp for a guy to be able to get in and out of his house much easier,” offensive lineman Dalton Risner said. “He’s a military veteran and served our country. So, it’s the least that we could do to come out here for an hour to help build a ramp.”
Risner said serving the Cincinnati community and fans like Ken is what it is all about.
“I wouldn’t be able to play the game that I love if it wasn’t for people that fight for our country and serve for our country,” Risner said.
Ken Wackenthaler said the ramp will help him and his wife get around the house. Ken and his family are Bengals fans through and through.
“I’ve been watching them for a long time, and … good days, bad days, but they hang in there,” Wackenthaler said.
This is the sixth year of the Bengals’ partnership with Operation Ramp It Up
