New Orleans officials outline security measures for NYE one year after Bourbon Street attack

Local, state and federal resources are in New Orleans to help residents and tourists ring in the new year on the eve of the one-year mark since a terror attack on Bourbon Street. There is “Super Bowl” level security in the New Orleans French Quarter ahead of the celebrations on the riverfront, the Fleur De Lis drop at Jax Brewery and entertainment at Woldenburg Park. From Tuesday, Dec. 30, to Friday, Jan. 2, Louisiana State Police troopers, along with agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and other state agencies, will support the city of New Orleans, the New Orleans Police Department and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office to help ensure the safety of residents and visitors. There will be a strong law enforcement presence throughout the French Quarter, including 350 National Guard troops. These law enforcement agents will assist with the French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone, and several guidelines and rules are in place in an attempt to keep visitors and residents safe. Drones are not allowed over the French Quarter until one hour after the conclusion of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Residents and visitors are also encouraged to download the See Something, Send Something app to share tips, photos and information with law enforcement.
