Michelle Lujan Grisham, is another example of New Mexico’s commitment to nurturing its $3.6 billion outdoor recreation economy.An Outdoor Equity Fund, dedicated to c0nnecting underserved youth with the outdoors, has received $3.5 million from the state Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division. Since it was established by the legislature in 2019, the OEF has invested $8.7 million to give 106,000 youth outdoor experiences.Another initiative from EDD’s Outdoor Recreation Division, the Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant program, received $10 million for community-led trail development and improvement, forest and watershed restoration, and infrastructure projects. In the past seven years, ORT+ grants have built $33.9 million in outdoor infrastructure.”The outdoor recreation industry enhances the quality of life as well as the economies of communities throughout New Mexico,” said EDD Secretary Rob Black. “This funding fuels economic growth, creates jobs and career pathways, bringing new opportunities for everyone, especially our youth.”
