The town council in Mountainair will meet Thursday evening to consider a temporary ban on fireworks.If approved, the use of all fireworks within town limits will be prohibited.Anyone found violating the ban could face a fine or other penalties.Mayor Peter Nieto says they had hoped recent weather would bring enough rain to reduce the fire risk, but conditions did not improve.He also says with the continued high fire risk, they believe it’s important to consider additional measures to help protect the community.The council meeting starts at 6 p.m.
