An Albuquerque mother is being charged in the death of her 18-month-old baby.Police responded to a call from Albuquerque Fire Rescue for an unresponsive baby at a home on Cleghorn Road NW. First responders were unsuccessful in their revival attempts on Saturday, Aug. 2.Investigators found bruising and other injuries to the baby’s head. An autopsy showed the child had scattered bruising to the head and neck area, along with a large hemorrhage.Police detectives also learned the baby was born in 2024 and has been exposed to drugs. The child was placed into state custody before recently being returned to their birth parents, according to police.The investigation led to 40-year-old Vanessa Chavez being charged with child abuse resulting in death.
