Drier air will bring fewer showers and thunderstorms through Thursday. A backdoor cold front will bring more storms across New Mexico Friday and into the weekend.
Fewer showers and storms popped up across New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. Most of the rain has ended already tonight with drier conditions in place by Thursday morning. Lower dew points will be moving in from the west overnight, bringing even fewer showers and storms Thursday afternoon. A few spotty showers are still likely though, especially in the mountains. The drier weather will also bring warmer temperatures Thursday.
A backdoor cold front will start moving into northeast New Mexico Thursday afternoon and push south and west across the state into Friday morning. The increase in moisture behind the front will spark more showers and storms across a large part of New Mexico Friday afternoon, except for the northwest part of the state. Some drier air will move into northern New Mexico this weekend, but scattered storm chances will continue across many areas. This chance for rain will continue into early next week, bringing a chance for afternoon storms to many areas on Labor Day as well. Temperatures will also be cooling off through the weekend into early next week.
