More shower and storm chances for parts of New Mexico

Date:

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Low-level moisture increases across New Mexico on Sunday. This will bring an increase in afternoon storm chances, along with slightly cooler high temperatures. Temperatures will continue to cool off slightly for Labor Day, but there will not be as many storms as on Sunday. Still, storms will bring a threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding both Sunday and Monday. Lightning will also pose a risk to any outdoor activity. Tuesday will bring another round of isolated afternoon storms, especially in the mountains and nearby areas.

Forecast Continues Below

A stronger backdoor cold front will move into the state from Tuesday into Wednesday. This front will bring an increase in low-level moisture and cooler temperatures. More showers and storms will develop on Wednesday afternoon, especially in northern and eastern New Mexico, where storms could drop heavy rain. Temperatures will continue cooling off into the end of next week, with high temperatures falling below average for this time of year, and parts of northeast New Mexico even feeling more like fall. Afternoon storm chances will also stick around into the end of next week.
