Monsoon storms today and tomorrow, heat returns later this week.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Pockets of heavy rainfall and flooding will be possible, with a flood watch in effect for the southern and eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains this morning through early evening. This watch includes the area over the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar, so stay vigilant. Rainfall appears likely throughout the state beginning this afternoon. Albuquerque’s best chance for rain will be this afternoon and evening. If you’re traveling, always avoid arroyos, ditches and water-covered roads. Gusty canyon winds may also hit Albuquerque this evening. As temperatures climb back into above average/record-high territory later this week, rain chances will back off.
As the Frijoles fire continues to burn, air quality in Santa Fe County and its surrounding areas may be affected. The most likely areas impacted will be across northern New Mexico. If visibility drops in smoke, sensitive groups should wear protective gear and limit outdoor activities.
