Monsoon storms favor the west and north this afternoon with temperatures back above average.
Storm chances set to drop off later this week as temperatures challenge record highs.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
There are some scattered showers early this morning in the southwest part of the state and also some sprinkles and light showers north of Santa Fe that should tend to wrap up by sunrise. Early morning temperatures are pretty warm around the state, and if Albuquerque stays at 70 or above, we will have broken the record for the warmest low temperature for the date! Later this afternoon we expect temperatures to climb into the 80s and 90s, numbers well above average for the first half of September, before a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms develops into the dinner hour and this evening.
Temperatures will jump back up into the 80s and 90s again tomorrow afternoon, numbers just shy of records for the date, and we’ll still be watching for a decent chance of scattered storms through the state’s midsection. By Wednesday it looks like skies will trend drier in Central New Mexico as the areas most-favored for scattered storms will shift south and east of the Albuquerque metro. Then monsoon storm coverage looks like it will noticeably drop off around much of the state for both Thursday and Friday.
High temperatures will continue to climb into the lower 90s all week long which will be close to records on a daily basis…and the weekend will probably keep temperatures in the lower 90s around Albuquerque. It looks like storm chances will start to increase again over the weekend, for Saturday it may be for areas west of Albuquerque before a better chance of storms returns to the middle part of the state by Sunday.
