Monsoon season officially ends & warmer

Date:

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Not-as-humid air is present across New Mexico with little to no rainfall. East-gap winds are a little bit gusty for some with very patchy fog developing in the northern valley floors to far-eastern parts of the region.

Around-freezing temperatures are confined to the Northern Mountain peaks to the far-northern valley floors, while elsewhere is mostly starting off in the 40s to the 60s.

West-northwesterly upper-level winds are pushing the small amounts of Monsoonal moisture away to the northeast, while the core of the jet stream is still to the north of New Mexico. Very few to no rounds of thunderstorms will form in the mountainous areas today through far-eastern areas.

More sunshine will allow afternoon temperatures to climb back above normal for all. High temperatures will mostly reach the 70s and 80s, except for northern highly-elevated areas, which may not get out of the 60s, while far-southern areas will be around 90 degrees.

Some moisture has remained at the surface from the east as the pendulum swing pattern of muggy mornings out east with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will still continue. Less upper-level moisture will still be the trend ahead, allowing for very few isolated storms to form this workweek with higher temperatures and calmer winds before the next pattern change.
