Monsoon season is officially over in New Mexico after today. Warmer weather moves in through the rest of this week with a fall storm system moving in by Saturday.
Only a couple showers tried popping up in central and northern New Mexico for the last day of the 2025 monsoon season. They didn’t last long at all, bringing very little to no additional rainfall today. Temperatures also continued a warming trend across the state. High pressure officially cuts off the monsoon flow and ends the monsoon pattern Wednesday. This will bring dry weather back to all of New Mexico on Wednesday as temperatures continue to warm. The warmest days are going to be Thursday and Friday when the high pressure system moves over New Mexico.
A fall storm system begins moving into western New Mexico Friday, bringing a chance for isolated rain and storms to western and northwestern New Mexico. The storm passes north of New Mexico Saturday, but will bring more showers and storms to mainly northern New Mexico Saturday and Sunday. Winds will also pick up as this storm system moves in Saturday. Southwesterly winds Saturday afternoon will gust as high as 45 mph in western and northern New Mexico, with gusts up to 35 mph across the rest of the state. Calmer weather will return Sunday, with cooler temperatures across New Mexico. The active weather may stick around next week with a backdoor cold front bringing isolated rain and storms.
The forecast for the first weekend of Balloon Fiesta has changed slightly. Southerly winds will be light Saturday morning with temperatures in the upper 50s. Winds do pick up quickly by the afternoon though. Sunday looks calmer now, with a very light northerly wind and temperatures in the mid to low 50s.
