Miranda Lambert‘s new song “Crisco” finds her exploring new territory. The upbeat love song sounds like something born in an era that came and went before she had a chance to stamp it.
- “Crisco” is Miranda Lambert’s first new song since “A Song To Sing,” her 2025 duet with Chris Stapleton.
- She wrote the song with Aaron Raitiere, Jesse Frasure and Chill Fellacheck.
- Look for it to be released in full on May 15.
Glen Campbell’s “Southern Nights” and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands In the Stream” are two songs mentioned during the chorus of “Crisco.” Here is the full chorus:
“Baby we’ve been cooking with crisco / Ain’t we mixing country and disco / Stir it around / Give it a spin / It’s a rhinestone we’re living in / We’re talking Southern Nights / We could be like Islands in the Stream that’s right / Getting in the rhythm of the radio / And away we go / Cooking with that crisco.”
A longer version of the song found elsewhere on Lambert’s YouTube channel includes part of a verse and her hat tip to Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, who recorded 10 albums together in the 1970s and early 1980s.

“Crisco” isn’t like anything in Lambert’s catalog, but it’s not totally new. In fact, she’s been teasing this pivot for most of a year.

Lambert’s new country-disco era goes back to summer 2025 as her Stapleton duet hinted at a sonic shift. Imagery for that single’s cover (a heart-shaped disco ball with retro font) is on brand for a song washed with soulful harmonies, thick bass lines and keys.
She becomes one of two 2000s country superstars to look backward for their next project. Last week, Keith Urban announced his Flow State album. It’s filled with yacht rock covers, most popular in the ’70s and ’80s.
It remains to be seen if “A Song To Sing” and “Crisco” are a part of something larger, but Lambert has always been an album artist, not one prone to release a single here and there. Whatever comes next will be her first project via a partnership with MCA following a single album on Big Loud.
