Metropolitan Detention Center reports 6th inmate death this year

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) has confirmed the death of another inmate on Wednesday. Thomas Acee II died while in custody at MDC. Acee has previously made headlines for various crimes, including a significant incident in 2021 when he was accused of shooting at the newly completed Alvarado Square building in downtown Albuquerque. This shooting forced the building to close for ten days for repairs, and at that time, Acee was already wanted for other offenses.

Just last year, Acee faced allegations in the murder of a 13-year-old during a drive-by shooting in downtown Albuquerque.

He was being housed at MDC. Jail officials reported that around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Acee was found unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Medical Investigator and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating Acee’s death. BCSO has stated they will provide more information once the autopsy is completed.

This marks the sixth death at MDC this year.
