Family, friends and the community are gathering to remember and honor fallen Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Schlattman. Sgt. Schlattman was killed in the line of duty while on a traffic stop in the east mountains in February. Sgt. Schlattman joined the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department in Apr. 2012 and was promoted to sergeant in July 2024. Schlattman held many assignments with department. He served as a detective in the Special Investigations and Auto Theft unit, and as a task force officer with the U.S. Marshals and Drug Enforcement Administration. Most recently, he was assigned as a sergeant in the East Mountains.The sheriff’s office says Schlattman was a kind leader that deputies hope for and one that families trust.
