A Massachusetts man pleaded guilty to several charges after the U.S. Attorney’s Office said he illegally sold and imported plutonium from Russia.

Jacob D. Miller, 44, of Hadley, was a convicted felon at the time of the illegal importation charges against him.

In 2004, Miller was convicted in state court for possession of child pornography and possession of an explosive device.

After his release, Miller began selling the highly radioactive plutonium and sold the element to 67 people from December 2020 to March 2025, from his home in South Hadley, which is around 15 miles north of Springfield, Massachusetts.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Miller shipped the plutonium to customers in and outside the United States, even as the plutonium was prohibited from being mailed.

Miller’s home was searched in April 2025. Police found a box containing bottles of explosive powder, ammunition and rifles, possession of which violated his prior felony convictions.

His laptop and cell phone both contained child sex abuse material, the U.S. Attorney said, which he accessed just one day before the search warrant was carried out.

Miller pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition, one count of being a felon in possession of explosive materials, one count of importing nuclear material without lawful authority, one count of mailing hazardous materials and one count of possession of child pornography.

Miller will be sentenced on Jan. 21, 2027, in U.S. District Court.
