Maren Morris famously exited country music in 2023, citing what she called a “toxic” environment and a “spawning ground for bad, politicized takes.”
Three years after stepping away from the genre, Morris appeared in an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 to discuss the current wave of success for women in country music.
Morris says, “I mean, yeah, I’m so excited that they’re all crushing it because for a very long time it was pretty sparse — having women dominate the charts and awards and just, yeah, be paid what they’re worth.”
Morris continued, “It’s amazing to see that tide turning and them all just having this huge moment right now simultaneously, without competition. That’s all very exciting to me.”
Has Maren Morris Totally Abandoned Nashville?
No. Morris remains friends with many country artists and songwriters.

She says of the songwriters behind some of the most popular songs by female country artists, “I think also looking at the songwriters on those records, because I’m friends with a lot of them, I’m super proud that they’re on these big projects. The songwriting is getting so good, and that always makes me excited to continue writing.”
