
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A man from Shiprock, New Mexico has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for a drunk driving crash that killed two people in December 2023.
According to court documents, Brian Gonnie, 45, was under the influence of Alcohol while driving on Highway 64 in Shiprock. Gonnie was traveling around 86 mph in a 35 mph zone and crashed into another vehicle head-on. The crash killed the passenger in Gonnie’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle. A passenger in the other vehicle also suffered severe injuries. Gonnie’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at .267 and a number of empty alcohol containers were found in his vehicle. Gonnie admitted to drinking alcohol and driving to FBI agents.
Gonnie pleaded to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of assault. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.
