Man who climbed on ‘Bumblebee’ statue and stripped pleads not guilty

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Hector Melero, the man charged with indecent exposure in downtown Albuquerque after climbing on top of the “Bumblebee” statue and stripping naked, pleaded not guilty.

Surveillance footage caught Melero climbing up the Bumblebee Transformer statue and removing his clothes at 4th and Lomas on Monday. Police had to remove him twice that day from the statue. Melero was arraigned in front of Judge Jill Martinez and pleaded not guilty. During the arraignment, the state said he has a criminal history in California, Texas, Wyoming and New Mexico. Melero was released on his own recognizance and scheduled for a bench trial in July.
