Man involved in Waffle House fight released into court program

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man pleaded no contest to his part in a fight that took place at a Waffle House in January 2025. Security camera and body cam footage shows the incident and the aftermath of it.

Court documents say 25-year-old Yokeen Lunford got into a fight with employees at the Waffle House on Yale, after claiming he was not given his change. The dispute turned violent when Lunford and the other people he was with started to attack the employees, with Lunford using a broom as a weapon, according to court documents. Lunford then left the restaurant and was spotted in a car by police. Police attempted to pull over the car; however, they said he fled and crashed into a wall. Police body camera video showed Lunford fighting with officers as they tried to take him into custody.

Tuesday in court, Lunford pleaded no contest to attempted burglary with a deadly weapon and aggravated fleeing. Judge Courtney Weaks released Lunford into the young adult court program. If he successfully completes it his charges could be dismissed, if not he faces up to a year behind bars.
