Man falls 12 feet at Pleasant Grove construction site, prompting extraction

PLEASANT GROVE — A man fell 12 feet, into a basement, while working at a construction site Friday, prompting a special response team to extract him.

The incident occurred at a residential and commercial construction site near 50 S. Main Street in Pleasant Grove.

“We had to do a rope operation to get him … and lift him up out of there,” Pleasant Grove Fire Battalion Chief Jake Larsen said. “A bunch of different agencies from the county responded. We had American Fork, Lehi, Lone Peak, Provo — all responded to help out.”

Larsen said the teams used an aerial tower from the the American Fork Fire Department as a high point to lift the man out of the hole.

The man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

“As far as we know, he was conscious, breathing, talking to us, alert, oriented,” Larsen said. “Looks like we had some obvious leg fractures, but at this point, I don’t know any other injuries.”

He said he believes the man suffered head injuries, as well. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been contacted and is working with the contractor to investigate the incident.
