A 31-year-old man from Russia is in custody at the Luna County Detention Center in connection with a wrong-way crash that killed one person, a New Mexico State Police social media news release said. Around 1:40 a.m. on Friday, police were made aware that someone, later identified as Artem Durnov, was driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 near milepost 123. Soon after, U.S. Border Control reported that the driver crashed into two vehicles, and then continued driving the wrong way near milepost 102. When NMSP officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they saw that a driver of one of the cars was trapped inside their vehicle. That person was extricated and taken to the hospital, where they died. Another person involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with a head injury.Durnov was arrested and booked into the Luna County Detention Center, charged with homicide by vehicle/negligent manslaughter (DWI), driving under the influence of drugs, and reckless driving.
