Man accused of stalking, harassing family of slain healthcare CEO Brian Thompson

Date:

A New York state man was criminally charged for allegedly stalking and harassing loved ones of slain healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, authorities said Wednesday.

Shane Daley, 40, was arrested and accused of “sending harassing and threatening voicemail messages to a family member of murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson,” according to a statement by federal prosecutors in Albany.

The menacing calls were made between Dec. 4 and Dec. 7 last year in the hours just after Thompson was gunned down in the Midtown neighborhood of New York City.

“In a series of voicemail messages, Daley used threatening and harassing language that focused on, among other things, Thompson’s killing, expressed satisfaction over the fact and manner of his death, and stated that the victim and Thompson’s children deserved to meet the same violent end,” prosecutors said.

Thompson’s slaying sparked waves of callous praise for his killer, immediately after shooting.

Daley is from Galway, New York, which is about 35 miles northwest of the state capital of Albany.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Daley had hired or been assigned an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Christopher Raia, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York office, said the suspect’s calls were “more than callous and cold-hearted. They were threatening and terrified a family already suffering following the violent death of their loved one,” he said.
