Machine gun conversions allegedly linked with Los Lunas man
Robert Gurule, 23, allegedly manufactured, converted, and sold machine guns, conversion devices
Robert Gurule, 23, got the attention of law enforcement when an undercover investigation caught wind of an operation that allegedly manufactured, converted, and sold machineguns, as well as machinegun conversion devices, according to news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico. In the summer of 2025, an undercover ATF agent saw advertising in which Gurule had firearms and suspected machineguns for sale on Facebook, including videos of him firing a fully automatic weapon. That led to controlled purchases in which Gurule allegedly sold firearms with machinegun conversion devices, also known as “switches,” the release said. According to the news release, on October 2, 2025, Gurule allegedly sold the undercover agent a rifle with a conversion device and a high-capacity drum magazine for $1,600, then allegedly sold several machineguns and another firearm to him for $4,600.Then in April 2026, Gurule allegedly had an agreement to sell approximately 80 machinegun coversion devices and other firearms to the undercover agent. Gurule and co-defendant Izatah Hausner, 21, met with the agent on Sunday, April 26, with the devices and agreed on a sale price of $11,500. Both men were arrested after the agent took possession of the conversion devices, the release said. Gurule is charged with unlawful possession and transfer of a machine gun and will remain in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday, April 29.
