Date:

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized a team of lifeguards who saved the life of a young swimmer. On June 23, the lifeguards at the South Valley Aquatic Center found an unresponsive child in the water.

Lifeguard Logan Sanchez quickly got the child from the water while pool manager Melanie Hernandez moved into action. Lifeguards Edgar Pavia Garcia, Anthony Montoya, Joshua Lovato, and Japhet Beltran Larios performed three rounds of CPR and other life-saving measures until the child regained consciousness. “As most of you, being very young, and I think you set an example for young people your age of being proactive and professional, and thanks again for all you do, your efforts are well noted, and well knowledge,” said County Commissioner Frank Baca.

The county said many of the lifeguards are pursuing careers in healthcare.
