Kelly Clarkson is fully focused on her children’s needs following the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock, on Thursday (Aug. 7).
The 48-year-old had privately battled cancer for over three years, with the pop-country powerhouse shielding their kids from the heartbreaking details.
Clarkson is now in full mom mode, ensuring that River, 11, and Remington, 9, feel protected and loved during this incredibly tough time.
A Private Battle and Heartbreaking Loss
Blackstock passed away surrounded by family, and Clarkson has been “devastated” for her kids as they process their father’s passing.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. Clarkson has always tried to keep things classy,” an insider told People.
They continued, “It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well.”
Putting Family First, No Matter the Past
The “Keeping Score” singer and Blackstock were married for seven years, with their marriage ending in June 2020.
After a lengthy legal battle, their divorce was finalized in 2022.

Despite the contentious split, Clarkson has always worked to ensure their children had a positive relationship with their father.
“The divorce was incredibly difficult for her—messy, painful, and something she felt terrible about,” the source said. “But she always wanted her kids to have the best relationship possible with their dad.”
They added, “She never spoke poorly about Brandon to the kids.”
Kelly’s Children Are Always Her First Priority
In light of the personal tragedy, Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas residency to be there for River and Remington, sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she began.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Clarkson wrote on Wednesday night (Aug. 6).
The Voice coach continued, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.”
Despite her international stardom, Clarkson continues to prioritize her children, guiding them through grief with love and strength.
