‘Invisible heroes’ celebrated with 5k Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The American Society of Radiological Technologists hit the pavement to bring awareness to the “invisible” heroes of healthcare. The inaugural run took off Saturday morning in southeast Albuquerque with a 5K and a kids K.

Organizers of the event say medical imaging and radiation therapy is the third-largest health profession in the world. They say these unseen heroes play a vital role in the medical field. The event provides a way for professionals to get to know people before becoming a patient.

“Most people have met our professionals but they didn’t realize that that is who we were, and we want people to understand this amazing profession,” says Melissa Pergola, CEO and Executive of the organization.

Each participant was awarded with a medal and a t-shirt. Organizers say if you missed this event, there will be more coming up for summer and beyond. More information is available online.
