Instacart orders reveal New Mexico candy-buying habits

Date:

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Candy’s biggest month is here! So what sweets will New Mexico residents be chomping on the most? Instacart recently weighed in on what its deliveries revealed about New Mexico’s candy-buying habits during spooky season.

According to the site, New Mexicans prefer to order Almond Joy over any other candy. The Land of Enchantment shares that trait with California. Nearby, Colorado and Texas seem to be obsessed with Sour Patch Kids, Arizona chooses Tootsie Rolls, and Utah is downing a ton of Peanut M&M’s along with Oregon, Idaho, and Iowa.

When it comes to the divisive subject of Candy Corn, New Mexico is not having it. I mean, some of us are, but it’s definitely lower than the national average. Instacart data shows the Midwest and the South love the stuff. Kentucky is ordering it 77% over the national average, Nebraska orders it 91% over, and Mississippi orders the most at 92% over. I’m happy for them.

“Candy Corn is the ultimate Halloween wildcard,” said Alex Orellana, Trends Analyst at Instacart. “In some states, it’s a nostalgic must-have that people eagerly stock up on, while in others, it’s the first candy left behind in the bowl. That split is what makes Candy Corn so fascinating: it’s not just a treat, it’s a tradition that people either love to celebrate or love to debate.”

Overall, New Mexico kept things pretty sweet for themselves with their candy orders about 13% higher than the national average. Utah’s numbers reigned supreme, however, ordering 50% above.
