Officials at Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) are now reporting another inmate death. Thomas Acee, 21, was first booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Dec. 6, 2024. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at approximately 4:27 a.m., he was discovered unresponsive. Acee was declared dead at 4:48 a.m., after MDC staff and the UNM hospital medical team attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the incident and responded to the scene. The incident is currently under investigation by the MDC office of Professional Standards and BCSO.
