I-40 reopens west of Albuquerque following fatal crash

Crash happened between the Atrisco Vista and Rio Puerco exits.

FOR SEVERAL HOURS LATER ON TODAY. THANK YOU ERIC. WE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THAT BREAKING NEWS, TRAFFIC NEWS JUST WEST OF ALBUQUERQUE. THIS IS MAJOR I-25. I-40 IS SHUT WESTBOUND BECAUSE OF A CRASH NEAR THE ROUTE 66 CASINO NEAR MILE MARKER 144. WE DO HAVE ALYSSA MUNOZ WHO WILL BE COMING UP FOR US RIGHT NOW. ALYSSA, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE OUT THERE? YEAH. THAT’S RIGHT. SO OVER THIS HILL, WE’RE NEAR ATRISCO VISTA AND I-40, YOU CAN SEE WHERE B-C-S-O IS BLOCKING THE ENTRANCE TO GET ON WESTBOUND I-40. AND YOU CAN ALSO SEE THIS IS WHERE SEMI TRUCKS AND OTHER TRAFFIC ARE BEING DIRECTED TO THE FRONTAGE ROAD TO TRY AND GET AROUND THAT. YOU CAN SEE THEM RIGHT HERE NEXT TO ME. NOW WE DID REACH OUT TO B-C-S-O AND THEY TELL US THIS HAPPENED A LITTLE AFTER 430 THIS MORNING. MULTIPLE CARS WERE ON FIRE. WE KNOW AT LEAST ONE PERSON HAS DIED FROM THAT CRASH, BUT WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO KEEP THE WESTBOUND LANES CLOSED AS THEY CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE. NOW, WE’RE NOT SEEING MUCH OF A BACKUP RIGHT NOW, BUT THIS COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM AS WE START TO GET LATER INTO THE MORNING AND MORE PEOPLE GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE. BUT WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO FOLL
